Salon Visit

Having been several weeks since I mustered up the energy to retwist my own hair and with the holidays only 3 days away, I decided to have a salon job.

Well, now I know why I started grooming my own hair in the first place.

A loooong way from the relaxing indulgence everyone else seems to enjoy, I’ve never had my hair so tightly twisted in my life and the HEAT! Unbearable.

In short, after more than 5 years experience with locs, I do a much gentler and neater job myself.

I’d give them 3/10 if I’m rating

1. Because although the stylists were unconvinced (as they wanted to use wax or a crochet hook), they did let me use my own products (organic raw coconut oil and my trusty duck bill clips). 2. Because the atmosphere was pretty calm and friendly, enhanced by the Christmas cheer of fellow customers. 3. Because the start to finish duration was a reasonable 1hr 50mins or so.

The biggest drawback was the totally unnecessary and unattractive looking over retwisting.

These were pictures I took after I started unravelled them. Some had bunched up threefold and they still don’t sit properly. I was advised to let them loosen on their own but that wasn’t going to happen, my scalp was in agony.

Lesson learned, at least I have a scalp again.

Will probably turn this into a braid out at some point.
